Skin cancer is very common, around 100,000 cases are diagnosed in the UK each year and the numbers are increasing. The main cause of skin cancer is over-exposure to the sun or sunbeds.

A history of sunburn doubles the risk of developing skin cancer.

It's likely that most skin damage occurs before the age of 20, but the effects often don't show up until many years later.

Those most at risk are people with fair skin, lots of moles or freckles, or a family history of skin cancer. It pays to know your skin type!
